About the city

Fortaleza, portuguese for fortressis, the State capital of Ceará, located in northeastern Brazil. With population of around 2 million, it is considered the third most important city in the region in economic terms, after Salvador and Recife. Fortaleza has an area of 336 square km. To the north of the city lies the Atlantic Ocean. A lot of sun, sea and also many beaches, make the State of Ceará one the main tourist destinations of the Northeast in Brazil. Located right below the line of the Equator, half-way between Europe and North America, it has 573 km of coast, the sun shines 2,800 hours a year and the see water is always warm. Its sea breeze constantly softens the temperature, keeping an annual average between 23° and 30° C.
